Demanding live broadcast: Expertise France 2026

An elegant studio was built for the broadcast.

When a broadcast is more than a stream, you need the right production team.

Expertise France needed a local production partner in Finland capable of carrying out an international broadcast with TV-level broadcast requirements, with multiple backups and a bilingual transmission solution.

Watch the broadcast here: The Rendez-vous de l'Expertise.

Solid Stream carried out the Helsinki part of Expertise France's international production series, which takes place several times a year in different countries. Previous productions had been carried out in Mauritius, among other countries, and after Finland the production was continued in other countries.

The starting point for this production was clear:
everything had to work safely, and there had to be a backup system for everything.

Situation at

It was not a normal event streaming, but an international broadcast where the technical implementation, image quality, sound, interpretation and remote participants had to work exactly together.

In practice, this meant defining for each critical part:

  • Priority solution
  • Workaround
  • Another fallback solution

In a demanding live production, it's not enough for plan A to work. Plans B and C must also be in place.

Production cameras were used for the broadcast.
The production required strict concentration.

Implementation of production

The production was built at the HAUS development centre in Helsinki. The whole project was carried out as a two-day production.

On the first day, we built the technical package, tested the signals, went through the filming solutions and shot an intro video of the broadcast in advance. The intro video was then edited so that it blended seamlessly into the live broadcast.

The second day focused on the exercises, the King's exercises, the final checks and the mission itself.

The production involved about a production team of ten, which was responsible for the management of image, sound, interpretation, remote connections, transmission and the whole technical package.

Bilingual broadcasting and simultaneous interpretation

One of the most challenging aspects of the production was the bilingual implementation.

Two simultaneous versions of the broadcast were made:

  • Live broadcast in English.
  • Live broadcast in French, where simultaneous interpretation was used.

Moreover, the interpretation was not only for the audience, but also for the speakers, the presenter and remote participants. In practice, this meant that participants who spoke different languages received the interpretation they needed directly into their ears or remotely. In addition, the interpreters worked remotely from France.

In such a production, a professional sound engineer plays a critical role.

What the production included

Solid Stream implemented a package that included:

  • Multi-camera production.
  • Two operated cameras and two static cameras.
  • Live image mixing and graphics editing.
  • Multiple recordings and backups.
  • A simultaneous interpretation solution.
  • Connecting remote performers to the broadcast via Zoom.
  • Comprehensive technical tests and rehearsals before transmission.

The production used several backups for image, sound, recording, internet connections, streaming, and electricity.

We made use of TriCaster in transmission.

What made this production demanding

This was not just a single live broadcast, but a large-scale technical project where several systems had to work simultaneously without interruption.

In production, they merged:

  • An international production model.
  • Technical requirements at broadcast level.
  • Outbound visitors.
  • Bilingual broadcasting.
  • Live interpretation.
  • Multiple storage formats.
  • A carefully controlled studio environment.

In addition, the whole implementation was structured in such a way that each critical step could be verified in more than one way.

The more demanding the live production, the more success relies on pre-planning.

A professional presenter guarantees a TV-standard result.

Result

Expertise France's Helsinki production was produced in accordance with broadcast-level requirements, with two language versions and extensive technical backup.

The end result was a live broadcast suitable for an international series, where image, sound, interpretation, remote participants and programme flow had to work as a controlled whole.

When demanding live production works well:

  • The broadcast looks professional.
  • International participants will remain involved.
  • Technology does not distract from content.
  • The organiser can be confident that production will hold up under pressure.

Solid Stream's role was to act as a local production partner, capable of delivering a demanding international live production in a carefully planned and safe manner.
