When experts share their expertise, production must run smoothly—even when the program consists of technical demos and each presenter has their own computer.
Statistics Finland hosted the International PX-Meeting 2025 in Helsinki, where statistics experts and developers from around the world gathered to share their expertise on open-source statistical systems.
The event was organized as a hybrid event: there was a large crowd on-site in Helsinki, but a significant portion of the audience followed the proceedings remotely from various countries.
Solid Stream handled the live production of a two-day international hybrid event, as well as a separate, secure event platform for remote attendees. Interaction took place via chat.
Situation at
PX-Meeting was no ordinary seminar.
The program consisted of technical presentations, software demos, and performers from various countries. All of the performers were present in Helsinki, but a significant number of participants joined remotely.
The event focused on an open-source statistical system used not only by Statistics Finland but also by numerous statistical agencies around the world. The audience was exceptionally technical and international.
In this kind of environment, production is expected to meet two requirements:
- Technical reliability.
- The ability to handle rapidly changing presentations and computer sources.
When an event consists of demos and technical presentations, each source must switch quickly and reliably.
Implementation
Solid Stream produced the PX-Meeting as a two-day event in the Statistics Finland auditorium in Helsinki.
To ensure that remote participation worked reliably, a separate event platform was built specifically for the event. This was important from both a user experience and information security perspective. Remote participants were able to view the content without interruption and participate via chat throughout the event.
Production included:
- Live production of a two-day hybrid event.
- A separate event platform for remote audiences.
- Multi-camera production using robotic cameras.
- The necessary microphone setup for speeches.
- Screen capture solutions for computers and presentation sources.
- Audience participation via chat.
- Recording provided after the event.
Three people were involved in the production, handling directing, video mixing, and sound. The entire technical setup was tested in advance, both in the studio and at the event venue, before the actual broadcast.
A technically demanding environment
The particular challenge of the PX-Meeting was not its visual appeal but the technical complexity of the content.
The performances featured plenty of:
- Software demos.
- Displaying user interfaces.
- Material from various computers—both Mac and PC environments.
In this type of production, camera cuts, switching solutions, and signal management are critical. Different computer sources had to switch quickly and seamlessly so that the program would stay on schedule and keep the remote audience engaged.
In a technical hybrid event, the most important thing isn't just a good picture, but that the content reaches the audience without delay or adjustments.
Recordings as Part of an Event's Value
At an event like PX-Meeting, the content isn't valuable only in the moment it's presented live.
Since the program consisted of technical presentations and demos, a high-quality recording was an important part of the overall experience. This allowed participants to revisit the content later, ensuring that the benefits of the event continued even after the live sessions had ended.
This is particularly important at international expert events, where not everyone who is interested can always attend in person.
A good recording makes an expert event useful even after it has aired.
Result
The International PX-Meeting 2025 was a successful two-day international hybrid event. Both on-site and online participants were able to follow the content seamlessly throughout the event.
When production works well:
- Technical demos are clearly visible to all participants.
- Remote connections remained stable throughout the event.
- Computer sources switch quickly without any interruptions.
- The recordings will remain available for future use.
Statistics Finland gained access to a solution that catered to a technically demanding and international audience—without the event organizer having to handle the details of the broadcast themselves.
When the production of an international hybrid event runs smoothly, the content also reaches the audience online—and the expertise is preserved.
Thank you for your trust and for the smooth collaboration!
